THE Brazil sent 62 firefighters to help fight fires in Bolivia 37 of which are military firefighters from the National Public Security Force, linked to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), and 25 from the Military Fire Department of the Federal District.
Firefighters will carry out flyovers and analyze satellite maps to identify and combat fires along the border with the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul in joint operations.
Last Wednesday (5), part of the group traveled to reinforce Bolivian forces, establishing a joint command in the city of San Ignacio de Velasco, in the Department of Santa Cruz.
The mission command will work in collaboration with Ibama and ICMBio, both linked to the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA).
The Brazilian humanitarian mission is being coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), through the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), and headed by a disaster specialist from the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR).
According to Ibama, 112 fires have been recorded in recent weeks in the Pantanal region, of which 18 are still active. Twenty-three are being controlled by the task force led by the Forest Fire Prevention and Control Center (Prevfogo), linked to Ibama, and 71 have been extinguished.
According to the MRE, the work of fighting the fires has been carried out by Brazilian teams since June on the border between the two countries.
