Brazil: Seven dead after small plane crash

Seven people, including five members of the same family, were killed today in Brazil, after crash of a small aircraft, shortly after it took off, near Sao Paulo (southeast), the fire brigade announced on Tuesday afternoon (Greek time).

One of the victims was the businessman Celso Silveira Member Friendship, brother of its owner Cosan, one of the largest biofuel companies in the country, was announced by the company in a press release.

“Celso Silveira Melo Filio, who was a shareholder in the group, was aboard the plane that crashed this morning in Piracicamba, along with his wife, three children, the captain and the co-pilot,” Cosan said.

The twin-engine boat sank in a grove in a settlement in Piracicaba, about 150 kilometers from Sao Paulo and all the occupants were killed, AFP reported.

In photos posted on Twitter by firefighters, one can be seen large black area, at the point of impact, where the flames continue to burn, while around it are charred trees.

Authorities have not yet provided information on cause of the accident, which occurred just 15 seconds after takeoff, according to the Pirasikamba municipal authority. The aircraft was heading to the state Despite (North).
