Brazilian journalist and music producer Matheus Piovesan, 36, died after being run over while returning from work on his bicycle in London, England, in the early hours of this Saturday (06). According to the British press, the driver of the vehicle and a passenger fled the scene without providing assistance, but were found and arrested shortly afterwards.
The accident happened near the intersection of Cable Street and Cannon Street Road, in the Shadwell neighborhood, in east London. According to the British media outlet The Standard, Piovesan was returning from the brewery where he worked when he was hit by a car in which two women were traveling.
“Police and paramedics attended the scene but he died. The women were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of the collision,” The Standard wrote.
According to the MyLondon website, the music producer was wearing a helmet and other protective equipment at the time of the accident. A helicopter was even called in to rescue him, but his death was confirmed before he arrived at the scene.
The Gaúcha Zero Hora website, where Piovesan worked as a reporter while he lived in Brazil, reported that he was born in Porto Alegre, but lived for a long time in Pelotas, also in Rio Grande do Sul. He had been living in London for about 5 years. There, he worked in bars and on musical projects.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Piovesan founded a platform dedicated to new music talents two years ago, Effervescent Sounds. On his Instagram profile, he invited people to watch shows by new jazz, pop and R&B artists in London.
Estadão was unable to contact the journalist’s family. The space remains open.
