Danelo Cavalcante, the convicted Brazilian murderer who escaped from a prison in Pennsylvania, was seen overnight on Saturday (9).
According to state police, the fugitive “changed his appearance.” The search reaches the 11th day.
“He is now clean-shaven and wearing a yellow or green hooded sweatshirt, black baseball cap, green prison pants and white shoes,” Pennsylvania State Police said in a statement Sunday morning.
The release added that he was located in northern Chester County, near Phoenixville, about 25 miles northeast of the prison from which he escaped on Aug. 31.
Cavalcante, 34, was also believed to be driving a white 2020 Ford Transit van with Pennsylvania license plates, according to police. The van was stolen from a local dairy farm, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office said.
Nearly 400 police officers joined the round-the-clock search operation.
Saturday’s sighting is just the latest. Police Lt. Col. George Bivens, who is leading the search, told reporters Friday that there have been “probably eight or nine” other sightings since Cavalcante’s escape.
Two sightings on Friday were confirmed within the general perimeter, where tactical teams, K-9 dogs and a helicopter are scouring for any sign of the fugitive, according to Pennsylvania State Police Trooper James Grothey. .
Cavalcante’s escape came about two weeks after he was convicted of murder in the 2021 killing of his ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandão, 33, in Chester County.
Authorities said Cavalcante stabbed Brandão 38 times in front of his two children, who are now in the care of his sister.
Cavalcante is also wanted in a 2017 homicide case in Brazil, a US Marshals Service official said.
The escape was captured on surveillance video, but was neither seen nor reported by the tower guard on duty. Authorities fired him last Thursday (7), a source with knowledge of the decision told CNN .
