Brazilian’s flight to space is postponed after review of the spacecraft; there is no new date

Blue Origin announced that the company’s next space trip, initially scheduled for the morning of this Friday (20), has been postponed after a review of the spacecraft. There is no new date for the flight.

The space tourism company of billionaire Jeff Bezos would take the mining engineer Victor Correa Hespanha among the crew, who could become the 2nd Brazilian to make a trip to space.

According to Blue Origin, during recent reviews of the New Shepard rocket it was observed that one of the “backup systems” was not “meeting performance expectations”.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we will postpone the launch of the NS-21 originally scheduled for this Friday. Stay tuned for more updates,” the company wrote in a statement, without specifying a new release date.

The NS-21 flight

The company Blue Origin announced, on May 13, the next space trip of the New Shepard spacecraft. The forecast was that six crew members would go to the edge of space on May 20, including mining engineer Victor Correa Hespanha, who could become the 2nd Brazilian to undertake a space trip.

The company also released the official emblem of the trip, which features elements from each of the crew. In the case of Hespanha, the shape of a diamond with a circle represents “the flag of Brazil in homage to the origins of Victor Hespanha”, declared the company.

Victor was drawn after investing in Gen-1, an asset of the Crypto Space Agency.

In a note, the engineer stated that this was the first time he had invested in cryptocurrencies and NFTs. “I bought it thinking about the appreciation potential, I never imagined that I would be drawn. I am fulfilling a childhood dream through an NFT, the penny is still dropping,” he declared.

The Crypto Space Agency said in a statement that it “has made 5,555 Gen-1s available on the market and predicts more spaceflight.”

The flight will be the fifth crew member of the New Shepard, a Blue Origin rocket, and will have five more crew members in addition to Victor: the American Evan Dick, who has already been part of the New Shepard mission in December 2021; Katya Echazarreta, who will become the first Mexican woman to go into space; Hamish Harding, entrepreneur and commercial airline pilot; and Jaison Robinson and Victor Vescovo, two investors.

“I would not sell the ticket drawn”

THE CNN , Victor said he is living a dream. “I am very happy, living a dream. It’s a childhood dream. Every Brazilian dreams of being a football player or being an astronaut and I am fulfilling the dream of going to space,” he said.

Asked if he would sell the ticket if there is any proposal, Victor said: “dreams cannot be sold. I am representing the dream of more than 200 million Brazilians and other people in the world”.

The engineer will succeed former minister Marcos Pontes, from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, who was in International Space Space in 2006.
