Britain: Russian forces have not advanced on Sheverodonetsk since June 10

Russian forces around Siverdonetsk had not advanced south of the city since Friday, the British Defense Ministry said on Saturday.

“Intense street fighting continues and both sides are likely to have suffered heavy casualties,” the ministry said in a statement posted on Twitter.

Russia is launching artillery and air raids in an effort to neutralize Ukraine’s defenses, Britain said.

Since April, Russian medium-sized bombers have likely fired dozens of air-launched, heavy-duty 1960s Kh-22 anti-ship missiles against ground targets, he said. These 5.5-ton missiles were primarily designed to destroy aircraft carriers using nuclear warheads.

When used in ground-based attacks with conventional warheads they are extremely inaccurate and can therefore cause significant collateral damage and civilian casualties.

Russia is likely to resort to such ineffective weapons systems because it lacks more expensive modern missiles, while the Ukrainian air defense continues to prevent its regular air force from carrying out strikes in much of the country, Britain concludes.
