The Civil Police are investigating the double murder that occurred on Monday night (7) at the Arembepe Outfall, in Camaçari, Metropolitan Region of Salvador (BA). In the action, brothers Gustavo Natividade, aged 15, and Daniel Natividade dos Santos, aged 24, were shot dead. Both were percussionists from the afro block Malê Debalê.
In addition to the brothers, a 17-year-old teenager and a 24-year-old young man were injured and are hospitalized at the Arembepe UPA, with non-life threatening injuries. According to witnesses, the group was strolling through the Arembepe Emissary at the time of the attack.
On Instagram, the afro block Malê Debalê lamented the death of the percussionist brothers: “It is with deep sadness that we inform the passing of Daniel Natividade and Gustavo Natividade, musicians from the Social Malézinho project. May God comfort all the family and friends in this moment of pain.” Burial information has not yet been released.
The 4th Camaçari Homicide Police Station is leading the investigations. The Civil Police have already issued guides for forensic examination and are taking steps to identify those responsible for the crime.
In a statement, the Bahia Military Police reported that, after being called to reports of shots fired, police officers from the 59th CIPM arrived at the scene and confirmed that four people had been hit. Gustavo Natividade died at the scene, while Daniel Natividade was rescued, but succumbed to his injuries. The authorship and motivation of the crime remain under investigation.
Malê Debalê was founded 45 years ago, in the Itapuã neighborhood, in Salvador, where the musicians lived. The association published a note of repudiation and regret over the death of the young people, who were on an excursion.
The brothers were not involved in crime. However, the suspicion is that they were killed due to a photo, in which they appear making a sign, interpreted as being from a rival criminal faction to the men who shot the percussionists.
