The musician Rinaldo Oliveira Amaral, the Porridge , from Ultraje a Rigor, remains sedated in the ICU at Hospital São Luiz, in São Paulo, after surgery performed over the weekend, which lasted approximately 3h30. He was shot in the head in Paraty (RJ) early on Sunday (3), and transferred in serious condition to the hospital in São Paulo.
He should remain like that for at least three more days, in a state of observation of the intracranial swelling caused by the wound, according to the doctors.
In a press interview this Tuesday morning (5), the team responsible for the case said that, at this moment, the fight is for life, and that it is not yet known whether this will be the only surgery performed. According to the doctors’ assessment, the next steps depend on the patient’s reaction.

The projectile that hit the Ultrage a Rigor musician penetrated the left frontal region, transfixed and was lost in the environment where the shot occurred. The affected region is a brain environment responsible for vision and motor function.
According to doctors, it is still difficult to establish a prognosis about possible sequelae. For now, the result of the surgery is considered satisfactory.
The doctors also explained that in cases like the musician’s, the treatment in the hospital consists of three phases: the acute phase; the phase of decreasing intracranial pressure; and the post-pressure phase, which is surveillance.
At the moment, the patient is in phase 2, still considered severe; up to the fourth post-surgery day is considered a critical moment. It is unlikely that the sedation will be removed before that time, the team said.
In addition, the induced coma happens to control intracranial pressure and also other organs: According to doctors, the patient is at the peak of swelling, and needs to overcome this stage before the next one. Possible conditions that could lead to a new surgery would be, for example, the appearance of clots.
Investigation
The police of Paraty, in Rio de Janeiro, identified, on Monday (4), three more suspects of shooting at the bassist’s car. According to Marcelo Russo, delegate of the 167th DP of Paraty, responsible for the case, the requests for preventive detention of all those identified have already been issued, and searches are being carried out to arrest them.
The three suspects, in addition to the man arrested on Sunday, are members of the faction that controls drug trafficking in the region.
With the prisoner, identified as João Victor, 29 years old, a .40 caliber pistol and ammunition were seized.
At the scene of the crime, agents found three cases with ammunition and a detonated projectile of the same caliber. The police are investigating whether the objects are related to the crime.
