California: Supreme Court rules whether relatives of coronavirus patients who fell ill at work receive compensation

In California the Supreme Court is to decide whether they will be entitled compensation relatives of patients with coronaviruswhere they became ill at work and transmitted the virus to their family.

According to Reuters, this request is being considered, as Korbi Cusieba had appealed to the justice of this State. claiming that she became seriously ill after her husband was exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus at work inat Victory Woodworks in San Francisco.

In her lawsuit, in 2020, Cusieba accused the company of negligence and “public harassment” for failing to take security measures to stop the spread of Covid-19. The woman then appealed after a federal court ruled that her claims were covered by the compensation to which employees are entitled and she herself could not sue the company.

The companies claim that if employers are allowed to be held accountable for such cases, then not only the relatives and friends of their employees but also anyone else affected will be able to claim compensation. Similar lawsuits have been filed against companies such as Amazon.com, Walmart, McDonald’s and Royal Caribbean Cruises.
