Calviño Aligns Himself With The Employers And Warns DíAZ And The Unions That He Opposes The ‘dismantling’ Of The Labor Reform

The Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, has manifested today against proposing negotiations with unions and employers to modernize the labor market with the dismantling of current regulations, as proposed by the head of Labor and the next third vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz. “I respect the slogans but I am in the substance,” he clarified.

The message to DÃaz and his priority at the Labor front has been direct. “It is not necessary to look to the past and changing a specific article of the Workers’ Statute does not solve the underlying problems. The main concern must be to promote job creation, the recovery of workers who are in ERTE and to tackle the duality in the number of contracts, “said Calvià ± o in an interview with Onda Cero.

The speech is very similar if not the same as the one you have held Antonio Garamendi, CEOE president on what he considers to be the real employment problems in Spain and the inappropriateness of the labor reform proposed by DÃaz. Translated into the positions of unions and the Ministry of Labor, on the one hand, and employers at the negotiating table, the approach of the person in charge of the government’s economic policy is thus more in the line of the seconds, who defend that the priority should be to urgently address the “pathological problems” of the Spanish labor market: unemployment and temporary employment, fundamentally.

DÃaz, who will become the leader of Unidas Podemos in the coalition government in the coming weeks, has already indicated on numerous occasions that its objective is to fulfill the party’s commitments in relation to labor regulations, that is, the “dismantling” of the regulations. This position is the one defended at the table by the UGT and CCOO unions, which since January have been calling for periodic mobilizations to demand compliance with a commitment that the PSOE came to assume, at least in the most damaging aspects of the norm: subcontracting, ultra-activity of agreements and representation of workers in collective bargaining within companies.

So, Calvinoy DÃaz replicate in the Government the positions that are produced within the social dialogue about where to start modernizing the labor market, positions that yesterday were of “absolute discrepancy”, as defined by Gonzalo Pino from the UGT. It remains firm in a pulse that when it has reached its greatest consequences on previous occasions has led to the withdrawal of DÃaz, as was the case with the increase in the Interprofessional Minimum Wage (SMI) last December.

“DÃaz and I share 100% the content of the reform proposals sent to Brussels, now we have to see what is the best approach with a balanced approach instead of focusing on a single thing that prevents us from moving forward,” he summarized . By “balanced”, Calvià ± o understands agreed by both employers and unions, that is, that it will not approve changes in the labor regulations proposed by DÃaz if they do not have the approval of the employers.

The priority of the head of Economic Affairs, who recalled that she chairs the social dialogue coordination table in which four ministries are present, is to end duality and precariousness. He recalled that there are currently 24 types of contracts and a permanent one, a temporary one and an internship are needed with special attention to fitting the discontinuous fixed types of activities such as tourism or the permanence of ERTEs to avoid layoffs. “There is no time to lose to undertake these changes and to take advantage of the economic recovery in the second semester,” he pointed out.
