Electoral polls show that about 80% of Brazilians plan to vote for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) or Jair Bolsonaro (PL) for president on October 2. But the number of those who say they would never vote for the current president is close to 50%, and the rejection of the PT candidate is also high, close to 40%, depending on the polling institute.
In the race for a more favorable scenario, Lula’s campaign invests in the search for the votes that are missing for a possible victory in the first round. On Bolsonaro’s side, the expectation is to take the dispute to the second round and, over the remaining weeks until October 30, seek to reverse the PT’s advantage.
In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an overview of how the appeals to “useful voting” and the high rejection rates of the two main candidates in the presidential race can influence the definition of this year’s elections.
To describe the evolution of the electoral race numbers in recent weeks and the possible strategies of the presidential candidates, researcher Renato Meirelles, president of Instituto Locomotiva, and political scientist Deysi Cioccari participate in this episode.
