Canada will send 39 armored vehicles manufactured by General Dynamics to Ukraine, Defense Minister Anita Anand said yesterday.
These are armored combat support vehicles manufactured at the General Dynamics plant in London, Ontario, and can be used as ambulances, as general support vehicles, and to transport soldiers on the battlefield.
Their mission was first announced by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the end of last week’s NATO conference in Madrid, and is part of the 500 million Canadian dollars (378.43 million euros) in military aid budgeted for of the country since April.
Anand told reporters that the deal for the armored vehicles destined for Ukraine is on top of a separate multibillion-dollar contract to supply 360 vehicles for Canada’s armed forces negotiated with General Dynamics Land Systems in 2019.
“The shipment of the vehicles (to Ukraine) will begin this summer,” the defense minister told reporters.
