Canadian security agencies are investigating reports of a possible link between Indian government agents and the murder of a Sikh leader in the province of British Columbia in June, according to a statement from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday (18 ).
Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead outside a Sikh temple, one of the main Indian religions, in the city of Surrey.
“Canada has expressed its deep concerns to the Indian government’s top intelligence and security officials,” Trudeau said in an emergency declaration to the country’s House of Commons.
Trudeau said he expressed his concerns “personally and directly” to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during last week’s G20 Summit, which took place in the Asian country.
