Canoas City Hall has prepared a contingency plan due to the rain forecast for this weekend in the municipality. The published document is valid from this Thursday (13) until Monday (17).
The planning, structured by the Crisis Committee, covers the entire flood zone area on the west side and the Niterói neighborhood, located in the eastern portion of the city.
Among the measures presented by Mayor Jairo Jorge, at a press conference, stands out the request for evacuation in areas where flooding frequently occurs, in addition to the request for the population to avoid circulation in the flooded area.
The contingency plan foresees the opening of sub-prefectures and eight reference points for the population this Sunday (16). If necessary, teams from the Civil Defense, the Army, the Municipal Guard, the Military Brigade, around 38 shelters and other garrisons will also be on standby to serve the population.
According to the city government, the Eclima forecast indicates that the region could record volumes of between 50 and 70 millimeters in rain this Sunday (16). Precipitation can cause flooding.
Furthermore, Eclima indicates that the volume of rainfall should be lower than that recorded between the end of April and the beginning of May.
