Capitals in the Southeast, North and Northeast may have rain at the time of the turn, says meteorologist

São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and the south of Minas Gerais may have heavy rains until the 10th of January. The alert is from meteorologist Maria Clara Sassaki, from Climatempo, who reported the possibility of accumulations that could exceed 100 millimeters.

“That’s a lot, it’s a rain that represents practically half of the accumulated for the whole month in a short period of time, that’s why it’s so dangerous”, he explained to CNN Radio .

“The drainage system of the cities cannot take this rain away at the speed at which it falls”, he continues.

In Espírito Santo, precipitation is lower, but the soil is already soaked and rain can also cause flooding.

At night, the rain can fall with low intensity, in an isolated and transient way in the capital Rio de Janeiro, for example. In São Paulo, showers are forecast from the afternoon, including in the capital, but it shouldn’t rain at New Year’s Eve.

In addition to the Southeast, the meteorologist reported that summer storms could cause disturbances in regions of the Midwest, citing areas in the region of Cuiabá, northern Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás.

“The humidity corridor, which is the same one that passes through the Southeast of Brazil, also passes through the Midwest. So there is an alert for the next few days regarding overflows and landslides”, said Maria Clara Sassaki.

The only area of ​​stability in the country is over Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and southern Paraná, where the climate should remain dry.

The other regions of the country may have rain in the coming days, including at New Year’s Eve, but without much intensity.
