The French should start wearing masks again in crowded places, especially in transport, as France is facing a new wave of Covid-19, triggered by new variants of the coronavirus, the Minister of Health announced today. Brigitte Burgundy.
“I do not say it will be mandatory, but I urge the French to put their mask on public transport,” Bourguignon said, stressing that it was a “social duty” of the people.
“I’m not just advising you, I’m asking you to,” he insisted, adding that citizens should also resume wearing masks indoors, such as in shops or offices.
In the last 24 hours, 17,601 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in France. It is the highest number of infections, for Monday, since April 18. Five days ago, the head of the vaccination campaign, Allen Fischer, confirmed that the country is in the midst of a new wave of pandemics, like other European countries. He himself advocated the mandatory use of a mask in transport.
The number of patients had dropped to a six-month low on June 18 (13,876), but then increased to 15,099. Another 48 deaths from Covid-19 were also announced today, bringing the total to 149,406.
