Castro says he is still negotiating with Guedes to include Rio in recovery plan

After a meeting with the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, this Wednesday (19), in Brasília, the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, said that the two teams are still in dialogue regarding the inclusion of the state in the recovery regime. tax (RRF), which allows the review of debts with the Union.

A new meeting between Castro and Guedes and the Economy team should take place in 15 days, for a new round of clarifications, according to the governor.

“What was observed was a willingness to discuss,” said Castro, who spoke to the press after the meeting ended. “Rio de Janeiro deepened points that the ministry asked for, and the ministry too. We started debating these points and it was decided that there was still more to debate. Both sides realized that much progress can be made before a final decision is reached.”

“The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro, and their teams met this Wednesday to discuss the process of joining the State to the Fiscal Recovery Regime. The two sides are working to resolve outstanding issues and are expected to meet again within 15 days,” the Economy said in a statement.

Created in 2017 for units of the federation in a very serious financial situation, the regime frees the state to pay its debts with the Union in exchange for a series of fiscal adjustment counterparts.

Opinions from the National Treasury and the Attorney General’s Office (PGFN), however, recommended that Rio not be accepted in the new RRF.

“It’s not a review yet,” Castro said of meetings with ministry teams. “These are clarifications of points. Before we talk about review, there was a deepening of what the plan means. The Ministry of Economy had doubts and our Treasury began to explain these doubts.”
