According to Reuters, a total of 24 hostages -13 Israelis, 10 Thais and one Filipino– were freed by Hamas and handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Gaza Strip, while Israel released 39 women and children held in its prisons, Qatar’s foreign ministry announced.
“Among the freed hostages are 13 Israeli citizens – some of whom have dual citizenship – 10 Thais and one Filipino,” said Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman, the Majid al Ansariadding that “39 women and children held in Israeli prisons” were also released.
Also, the head of the political office of Hamas, Ismail Haniya, in statements he made, claimed that “Israel believed it could free the prisoners through unprecedented killing and destruction and said it would not accept a ceasefire,” Haniya said. “After approx 50 days and in the face of the people’s struggle and resistance on every front, we managed to achieve a truce on the terms set by Hamas and the resistance factions,” he then added.
