The Federal Comptroller General (CGU) fined the mining company Vale R$ 86.3 million in an administrative process of accountability that concluded that the company failed to present reliable information in the National Mining Agency (ANM) system in relation to Dam I from Brumadinho (MG).
According to this Monday’s decision by the CGU, a positive Stability Condition Statement was issued for the structure, in the period from June to September 2018, when, “in the understanding of the control body, it should be negative, circumstances that consisted of act harmful to the Public Administration by hindering the inspection of the mining authority”.
According to Vale, even recognizing the non-existence of acts of corruption, the CGU defined the fine at the minimum level established by law, “with the non-involvement or tolerance of top management being recognized”.
Vale said it disagrees with the conviction and will file a request for reconsideration of the decision within the next ten days.
