Cha Eun-Woo tells CNN he can't wait to have fun with Brazilian fans

Cha Eun-Woo can't wait to have fun with Brazilian fans. It was the artist himself who said this, who gave an interview to CNN to talk about his first solo musical work, the mini-album “ENTITY”.

The South Korean singer and actor has a date set for his first visit to Brazil: on June 1st he will perform at Vibra São Paulo, in a show on his “2024 Just One 10 Minute” tour [Mystery Elevator]”. And, yes, the demand was huge – tickets sold out in one afternoon.

Eun-Woo is a K-pop idol in the group ASTRO, which debuted in 2016 and won passionate fans with hits like “Blue Flame” and “Candy Sugar Pop”. In addition to the music world, she also gained admirers through her performances in South Korean dramas. He was student Lee Suho in “True Beauty”; the dog-phobic teacher Jin Seo-won, in “A Good Day to Be a Dog”; and even a priest who practices exorcisms, in “The Island”.

In his recent solo career in music with the mini-album “ENTITY”, which was released in February, it is possible to get to know him even more deeply. Cha Eun-woo wanted to show his many faces, and that includes Lee Dong Min, his real name. The artist actively participated in the composition of the six tracks, which are “U&I,” “F*cking great time,” “STAY,” “WHERE AM I,” “You're the best” and “Memories” – the latter present only on the physical album.

In the interview, he spoke about showing his vulnerability, learnings and sent a message to Brazilian fans. Check out:

You participated in the composition of all the songs on “ENTITY”. How does it feel to let the whole world hear your deepest feelings? Was it difficult to show a vulnerable side of yourself?

I feel like it was a great act of courage to express my feelings honestly on this album. I think I was able to go even further and go deeper by sharing my emotions, laughing and crying.

Do you feel like the experience of writing for “ENTITY” helped you learn something about yourself?

For sure. While writing the lyrics, I consulted many notes I had written in my notebook. During this process, as I looked inside myself and reflected, I think I rediscovered and understood certain aspects about myself.

What do you hope your fans feel when they listen to your music?

I believe that the sensation and emotions people experience when listening to music are free. I hope my fans can listen to my songs and feel their own emotions comfortably. Furthermore, as this album contains my sincere emotions and messages, it would be wonderful if you could feel what is in my heart with me.

The album is described as an exploration of the various facets of her identity, showcasing both “Cha Eun-Woo” and “Lee Dong-min”. They are both you, but how different are these two personas?

I think “Cha Eun-Woo” feels responsible for everything he says and does. So sometimes he is a little more cautious. “Lee Dong-min” seems to be more common. Maybe he simply looks like my friends the same age?

What was the biggest challenge for you in the creative process of the album?

No part of the process was easy. The schedule was a bit tight and the album demanded a lot of emotional energy, so each step was challenging.

The title “Fu*king great time” is bold. What was the thinking behind the creative decision to use a strong word?

I believe that just as a coin has two sides, there is also duality in human nature. I wanted to express the dark and rebellious side. I didn't want to idealize or soften that part when expressing it.

Can you share any unique experiences that happened during the recording process?

For this solo album, during the recording, I focused on my natural voice, I wanted to express myself as I really am, as I speak.

You're coming to Brazil and we have a great reputation for being a passionate and loud audience. What are your expectations?

I really wanted to visit Brazil, so I adjusted my schedule. I'm looking forward to hearing my fans' screams!

Can you send a message to your Brazilian fans?

From what I know, I have a lot of fans rooting for me, even from afar. Thank you very much for all the support! I can't wait to have fun together. 👍 Thank you always and I love you!
