Fourteen students of a seminary and their teacher died in the early hours of Thursday due to torrential rains that hit Ouade province in eastern Chad, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office. “On the night of September 4-5, torrential rains hit Ouade province (…) a lightning struck a school, killing 15 people and injuring many others,” said the source. According to the governor of the province, the rains caused a house where the children lived to collapse, killing 14 students and their teacher.
