Chamber Committee approves visit to Vale do Javari, where Bruno and Dom disappeared

An external commission from the Chamber of Deputies will monitor the investigations into the murder of indigenist Bruno Pereira Araújo and British journalist Dom Phillips. Requests were approved, this Tuesday (21), for commission members to visit the region of Vale do Javari, in Amazonas, where the two were killed while doing work aimed at protecting the indigenous community. Among the approved requirements is the referral to the Federal Police and the Military Police of Amazonas, with a request for protection for the leaders of the Union of Indigenous Peoples of Vale do Javari (Univaja).

It was the indigenous people who began the investigations into the disappearance of Bruno and Dom, at the beginning of June, and they went into the woods looking for the evidence that led to the arrest of some suspects in this crime that is still being investigated.

According to deputy José Ricardo (PT-AM) he told the analyst of CNN Leandro Resende, the congressman had a meeting this Monday (21) with some representatives of the indigenous people who are in Brasília, the group is in the federal capital putting pressure on not to let the clamor of this story end.

The indigenous people said that they are very afraid, so the commission made a request that the surveillance teams of Univaja be specifically protected, a team that was trained by Bruno Pereira Araújo and that began to patrol the surroundings of the Javari Valley.

In addition to this surveillance team, the request for protection is for Univaja coordinators who have been exposed a lot to demand clarification on the deaths.

According to Leandro Resende, in addition to this approved request, the deputies also want to pay a visit to Vale do Javari, next week, to see up close the situation that the indigenous people are reporting in Brasília.
