Charlize Theron, producer for Netflix in the name of women and inclusivity

28After The Old Guard e The School for Good and Evil, Charlize Theron returns to work with Netflix, but as a producer. In fact, she will be behind the new project signed by Niki Caro, the live-action director of Mulan, dedicated to women who surf and fight for the right to compete in the most prestigious races on the circuit. The film, which is inspired by the article of New York Times “The Fight For Gender Equality In One of the Most Dangerous Sports on Earth”, does not yet have an official title, but it is clear that it will be dedicated to the life of the athletes Bianca Valenti, Andrea Moller, Paige Alms and Keala Kennell.

It is still unclear if Theron will appear (also) as an actress, while it is certain that the screenplay will be signed by Becky Johnston, who in 1992 came close to the Oscar for The prince of the tides. The main theme of the film, which has always been dear to Charlize, is, of course, gender equality and sexism that closes women the opportunity to engage in sports considered to be the prerogative of men, tickling the problem of a discipline, in this case surfing, which continues to carry many prejudices. Including that which sees women unfit to engage in an activity considered too dangerous for them.

Theron, who will return to play the character of Furiosa in the sequel to Mad Max in June 2023 and which could also appear in the ninth chapter of Fast and Furious, will collaborate with AJ Dix and Beth Kono to produce Niki Caro’s film. In the meantime, let’s get ready to see her soon, right on Netflix, in The School for Good and Evil as principal of the school of evil, and, later, also in the sequel The Addams Family 2, where, according to rumors, she could transform into Morticia Addams.
