China: Country leaves its mark on Mars – Zhurong robot takes selfie on red planet

Traces of eternity in front of a red flag with five stars. The photos sent by Chinese Zhurong robot by him planet Mars today proudly fills the space service of the most populous country in the world.

With its wing-like solar panels and two cameras at the end of a long neck, the (huge) bird-like robot photographed itself next to its landing platform with the help of a separate camera.

This “selfie” is the object of pride of the Chinese space agency that raised the national flag above the ground of Mars in a reddish atmosphere.

The service organized a ceremony to publish these images.

Zhurong’s journey to Mars: Arrived on the red planet after a year

Arriving in mid-May after a nearly year-long journey from Earth, the robot also photographed the tracks of its six wheels on the red planet. It is China’s “footprint” on Mars, the space agency said with obvious satisfaction.

Weighing about 240 kilograms, Zhurong – the god of fire in Chinese mythology – is expected to guide the analysis of the earth and the atmosphere and will map the red planet during its three-month mission.

The mission of the robot to Mars is a first for the Asian country, which became the second in the world to succeed in such an operation after the United States of America.
