China: Increase in coronavirus infections announced by Xi’an city on third day of lockdown

The Chinese city of Xi’an announced an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases on a daily basis and local companies reduced their activities as the latest coronavirus outbreak in the country enters the third day of lockdown.

Xi’an, a city of 13 million people in northwest China, identified 75 transmission cases in the community with confirmed symptoms on December 24, the highest score of the year, reversing the decline from the previous day, according to official figures released today.

Xi’an, who today began a series of mass diagnostic tests, has not announced any cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. Nationwide, China has reported only a few Omicron infections among travelers from abroad and to southern China.
