China is planning a secret invasion of Taiwan with its merchant navy

The enmity China and Taiwan begins to flare up, with Beijing working out a secret plan invasivein which his ships will be used merchant marine which will carry soldiers and weapons.

The China Maritime Studies Institute of the US Naval War College published a relevant study signed by the former US intelligence officer Michael Dahm and repost it Business Insider.

The report states that China has been conducting related military exercises in recent years, and in 2023 alone, at least 33 took place with merchant ships. The aim is to make a lightning invasion after 2030in a way that international reactions will not break out and it will not expand into a permanent war.

Beijing reportedly he wants to seize the ports of Taiwan so that cut off access to the outside and reduce the chances of resupply. At the same time, it examines the use of commercial ships, because the Taiwan is so close to the Chinese coast, so that one side can hit the other with the use of cannons. So, any movement of warships would automatically sound the alarm and the plan could be wrecked before it even gets started.

How can the invasion go unnoticed?

For a decade now, Western attention has been focused on the Pacific Ocean and China's coasts, as Beijing begins to develop a war fleet. According to Michael Dahm, in the event of an invasion merchant ships will be configured to carry soldiers and vehicleswithout raising any suspicion.

One of the largest related exercises held in 2023 involved 14 cargo ships that could carry up to 1,000 military vehicles and 2,000 soldiers. In fact, some had a deck configured to accommodate helicopters. Beijing has not officially announced anything, but Chinese television footage and satellite images continue to show merchant ships accompanying the navy in military exercises.

“As of this writing, a full-scale invasion of Taiwan before 2030 would likely be an extremely high-risk undertaking for China, a venture that would likely result in very high casualties, especially among its supporting merchant fleet. But it is developing the required procedures and increases adequacy for supply and disembarkation operations,” Michael Dahm wrote in the report.

It is reminded that last time merchant ships were used in war operationswas in Falklands War in 1982after a related order from Thatcher to save the exorbitant cost of moving the British war fleet.
