Ituiutaba and JBS
Ituiutaba, a city with just over 100,000 inhabitants in the interior of Minas Gerais, is undergoing a major transformation with the support of JBS.
In Minas Gerais, according to data from Fipe, the company generates R$3.12 billion with suppliers and contributed to the generation of more than 300 thousand direct, indirect and induced jobs. In the state alone, the company has more than 6 thousand employees in more than 15 operations spread across 7 cities.
Two life stories in Ituiutaba stand out in this partnership and illustrate the episode: that of João Paulo Vidigal Silva and that of Jucelma Amaral de Sousa.
João Paulo, 34, is the owner of the Baguete bakery and opened a branch inside the JBS factory in Ituiutaba. “This bread delivery partnership with JBS has existed for fifteen years. As the plant grew and demand increased, they needed a company that could produce bread inside the unit,” he explains. Today, more than 3,500 loaves of bread are baked daily at the unit, serving employees.
The JBS unit has 1,900 employees, 90% of whom live in the city. Over the past six years, the company has invested R$135 million to increase production, generating more jobs and improving the community.
Jucelma, 61, works as an administrative assistant at the factory’s restaurant in Ituiutaba, and saw the arrival of JBS transform her life and that of the region. “It’s common to talk to people and find them having some direct or indirect connection with the company. The feeling is one of gratitude for all the job opportunities and the strengthening of the economy that our city has experienced,” she explains.
