The metallic structure that will serve as a base for the political and military authorities that will participate in the celebration of the Bicentennial of Independence on Copacabana beach, in Rio de Janeiro, received the last adjustments this Monday (5). For example, carpets were placed and trees on the edge of the beach were pruned to avoid accidents.
The Military Police of Rio de Janeiro will have 1,800 extra agents to reinforce the city’s security. The contingent includes policing the waterfront, security at the act in Copacabana, other demonstrations, such as the Grito dos Excluídos, and the match between Flamengo and Vélez Sarsfield, for Libertadores, at Maracanã stadium, at night. The police officers called are those who would be on vacation or off.
The Municipal Civil Guard assigned 37 agents to accompany the event, taking care of traffic and supporting the fight against street vendors. Avenida Atlântica, where the stage was set up, will be closed to cars, as is traditionally the case on holidays.
The presence of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in Copacabana is expected around 3 pm. His deputy, General Walter Braga Netto, will also be at the event, according to the Secretary of Communication at Palácio do Planalto, in addition to Governor Cláudio Castro (PL). Members of Secom and the ceremonial department of the presidency arrived in Rio de Janeiro last Friday (2).
The September 7th act is the only public event of the President of the Republic in Rio de Janeiro. In the evening, he will have a “private” appointment, according to Secom, and should return to Brasília on Thursday (8) in the morning to follow the schedule already planned.
Bolsonaro’s allies are calling on their supporters for the September 7 act. The call comes with a tone of criticism of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and requests for “freedom”. In addition to ministers and military authorities, candidates for deputy are expected on the ticket of Bolsonaro and Cláudio Castro, both from the PL.
