“Civil War” breaks record and leads box office in Brazil on opening day

The new feature film Wagner Moura , “Civil war” hit Brazilian screens on Thursday (18) and topped the box office on its opening day, grossing R$800,000 and bringing more than 38,000 people to movie theaters, according to distributor Diamond Films.

Just like in the United States, the production marked the biggest debut of a film from production company A24 in Brazil.

The Brazilian actor plays a Reuters journalist in the plot, who is covering a civil war in the USA. Alongside three colleagues, he embarks on a journey to Washington DC to attempt an interview with the President before the opposition arrives and ousts him from power – see plot details here .

Names like Kirsten Dunst (“Spider man”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Dune”), Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla”) and Jesse Plemons (“Attack of the Dogs”) also star in the plot.

The direction is Alex Garland known for his work on “Ex_Machina: Artificial Instinct” (2014) and “Annihilation” (2018).
