Client SSD shipments decreased in the last quarter

Citing data from Trendfocus’s quarterly report, the source said that in the third quarter of 2021, the shipments of solid-state drives in the client segment decreased markedly. Compared to the second quarter of 2021, supplies in quantitative terms decreased by 17%, and if we take into account the total storage capacity, the decrease was 3%.

At the same time, shipments of corporate solid-state drives remained at a high level. Only in the segment of drives with SATA interface a small (a few percent) reduction in quantitative terms was recorded.

A total of 82.524 million solid state drives were shipped in the third quarter. The market leader is Samsung, which accounts for 25% of shipments. In second place with 14.3% is SK Hynix, and the entire market distribution is shown in the top chart.

Samsung’s leadership looks even more convincing if we operate in terms of information volume. The drives shipped during the quarter by the South Korean giant accounted for 40% of the total volume of 66,381 EB. The share of SK Hynix drives is 10.0%.
