In 2020, Britney Spears petitioned the court to remove her father from his full guardianship and let a financial institution handle his earnings.
Although the situation did not appear to have a resolution, recently the Superior Court of Los Angeles rejected his father’s request to control his absolute guardianship. Now he will have to share it with an investment fund chosen by the princess of pop.
In the resolution obtained, James Spears will continue as Britney’s legal guardian, only now he will share financial decisions with the private fund Bessemer Trust, a situation opposed by the lawyers of Britney’s father and that was previously rejected by Judge Brenda Penny .
The legal battle that the singer fought with her father has been extremely long. Currently, her lawyers seek to relax the guardianship so that she can make her own decisions without her father supervising all aspects of her public and private life. It is expected that in the next hearings to be held on March 17 and April 27, a more pleasant agreement can be reached.
Samuel D. Ingham III, Britney’s lawyer, reiterated that he will try to remove the absolute power of James in the next sessions. He also said that the judge’s resolution is close to the will of the singer, who has already expressed on several occasions her opposition to her father continuing as her guardian.
After 12 years of guardianship, this is a big step towards Britney’s independence.
