The National Confederation of Industry (CNI) announced its position for the renewal of Mercosur’s import regimes, which are in effect until the end of this year. The bloc’s Common Market Council meets on the 16th and 17th of this month.
“The continuity of the Ex-tariff (for machinery and equipment) and the List of Exceptions to the Common External Tariff (Letec) is crucial for companies’ investment planning and should be a priority at the Mercosur presidential summit”, defends the CNI.
Currently, the Ex-Tarifário covers 16,300 types of machines and 1,800 computer and information technology goods, while Letec covers another 100 products.
“Other priorities of the national industry are the internalization of the Mercosur government purchase agreements and the bloc’s trade facilitation, in addition to the Mercosur-European Union Free Trade Agreement, at the extra-regional level. The industry wants a more competitive Mercosur, integrated among itself and open to the world”, completes the CNI.
