THE cold front that arrived in Brazil on Thursday (18) will bring intense cold for the next few days, as stated by Climatempo. The polar air mass that passes through the South, Southeast and Midwest of the country should still bring storms and wind.
This Friday (19), there is a warning of very low temperatures in the South region and in the states of São Paulo and Mato-Grosso do Sul. The severe cold can be extended until Saturday (20), according to Climatempo.
In an interview with CNN this Thursday (18), meteorologist Maria Clara Sassaki said that southern Brazil should experience the second snow event of the year with the mass of cold air that hits the country.
According to the Climatempo meteorologist, behind the cold front comes the polar air mass, which meets the humidity and favors the occurrence of snow in the highest points of the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.
“Whoever is in these regions can witness the second snow event this year. The first one happened in May, it was still autumn, and now there’s a chance again [de aparecer neve”]said Maria Clara.
The forecast also shows that in Santa Catarina, Friday (19) should have a minimum of 8ºC and a maximum of 16ºC. In Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre must have a minimum of 4ºC and a maximum of 14ºC.
Low temperatures must persist at least until Saturday (20), when it should be between 1 °C and 5 °C in Porto Alegre, reaching -6 °C in the southern plateau of Santa Catarina.
In Paraná, the minimum temperatures expected are between -3 °C and 0 °C in the mountains and on the plateau, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).
There is snow forecast in fridayFriday (19) between the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, as in Aparados da Serra (RS).
At the Saturday (20), frosts are expected “in the south, southwest and in isolated areas of central Mato Grosso do Sul, on the border between São Paulo and Paraná and, broadly, in the south of Brazil, with moderate to strong intensity between the north of Rio Grande do Sul, central-south of Paraná and also in the southeastern mountain range of the state of Rio Grande do Sul”, warned Inmet.
The cold should reach the south of Goiás and Minas Gerais, and as far as Rio of Januarylosing strength from Sunday (21).
