Companies get stuck in the challenge of digital transformation

Companies in the province of Castellón have a long way to go to improve their digital transformation processes, according to a study by the Chamber of Commerce.

The Castellón Chamber of Commerce launched a working group to analyze the situation of companies in the province of Castellón in the field of digital transformation.

The work of this group, carried out during 2019/2020, has focused on developing a study that gives an initial photo of the situation of companies and businesses through 158 surveys carried out. The sectors interviewed have been trade and services, industrial sector and the one that includes transport, logistics and construction.

As a result of this work, a series of global conclusions have been drawn that allow having a first frame of reference and that define some deficiencies, needs and lines of work to improve the business generation capacity of companies, which are considered key considering The current global context counts, according to the chamber entity.

The first important aspect to highlight is that, Of the 158 companies surveyed, 86 indicated that they did not have a digital transformation plan because they had not set out to define it, they did not have financial resources, they did not have personnel or they considered that it was not important for their company. This trend is reversed as the number of workers increases and it is transversal to the three segmented sectors.

The companies that they did have a transformation planThey had focused on three main aspects. On the one hand, be more efficient in the production line, implement a management system and improve aspects of communication and digital marketing. In these cases, it was found that the companies They do not have internal capacity to be able to execute them and they would require external providers for its execution.

TRAINING

In this sense, there is a clear trend towards the lack of specific training for employees in matters related to digitization.

In this way, a 46 percent of the companies that have participated they do not offer training of this type to their employees and 20% do not know if it offers it, so it is interpreted by the working group that it is not a priority aspect.

There has also been a clear trend towards lack of specific professionals for the development of digitization processes, since a 54% of the companies surveyed indicate that they do not have this profile in their company and 10% do not know it.

Also, of these companies, 65% affirm that they do not plan to incorporate it next year. On the other hand, in companies that do have this specific profile, he occupies a management position within the company.

Another aspect that is concluded from the report is the degree of investment that the companies have developed. A 36% of companies had invested up to 6,000 euros in the last two years, a 25% between 6,000 and 30,000 euros and 18% had not made any investment.

With this degree of investment, the perception of the level of digitization of companies it was mainly intermediate for 40% of the respondents and basic for 29.30%.

On the other hand, globally, it was asked about the needs of the companies, regardless of whether a plan had been developed or not. Much of the responses obtained revolved around basic aspects such as creating a website, digital marketing, cloud services or electronic commerce.

In this case, aspects such as process optimization, big data or logistics were reflected in those companies with a number of employees greater than 50, but it cannot be concluded that they are priority aspects.
