Company is ordered to pay R$1.2 million for Boechat’s death

The Court of Justice of São Paulo condemned the company Libbs Farmacêutica to pay compensation of BRL 1.2 million to two children of journalist Ricardo Boechat, who died in a helicopter accident in 2019.

The action for moral damages was filed by Paula and Rafael Boechat, due to the lack of security in transporting the journalist. The plane crash occurred on the Anhanguera highway, in São Paulo, after Boechat gave a lecture on the country’s political situation.

Libbs claimed that it was not responsible for transporting the journalist, attributing the accident to Zum Brasil, which organized the event.

For judge Dimitrios Zarvos Varellis, Libbs Farmacêutica “had total conditions to monitor the carrier’s contracting process more closely”. The company responsible for the helicopter did not have a certificate from the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) for passenger transport.

According to the Air Force, the accident, which also killed Commander Ronaldo Quattrucci, was caused by lack of maintenance. There was engine failure due to lack of lubrication of parts.

A CNN questioned Libbs Farmacêutica about the sentence and awaits a return.

The company can appeal the decision.
