Compulsory vaccination: Proposal for people over 60 did not pass the German Bundestag

The proposal for compulsory vaccination against her did not pass Covid-19 over 60 years of age, as it did not recently garner the required majority in the Federal Parliament of Germany. The proposal was voted in favor by 296 deputies, while 378 voted against and nine deputies abstained.

The proposal was backed mainly by lawmakers from the ruling coalition parties (SPD, Greens, FDP), while party leaders had lifted party discipline rules, allowing lawmakers to vote conscientiously. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the Left supported his rejection compulsory vaccinationwhile the Christian Union (CDU / CSU) had submitted its own proposal for the establishment of a national vaccination register before the introduction of the obligation, which was also rejected.

As Chancellor Olaf Solz, as well as Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, had personally advocated for the mandatory vaccination of all adults, the ruling coalition suffered its first major parliamentary defeat today.
