Construction costs have the third lowest growth rate of 2021

Construction expenses increased 1.01% in the month of October compared to September. The information is from the National Civil Construction Index (Sinapi), released this Wednesday (10) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The indicator was 0.13 percentage point above the one presented in September (0.88%). The current rate is the third lowest in 2021.

In 12 months, Sinapi is at 21.22%. A level that represents almost double the official inflation for the period: 10.67%, also released this Wednesday by the institute, based on the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA).

According to IBGE, the Sinapi in 2021 is at 16.79%. In the same period, official inflation is at 8.24%. According to Augusto Oliveira, research manager, the increases are driven by the cost of the products and equipment used.

“The portion of materials is really responsible for this result, since there is no significant movement in the workforce, with the exception of ratified collective agreements”, he says.

This part of the indicator rose 1.27%, which represented a slight increase in relation to September: 0.06 percentage point (1.21%). However, when compared to the same month in 2020 (up 3.17%), the slowdown was 1.90 percentage points.

Meanwhile, the share of labor presented a rate of 0.64%. The increase is the result of a collective agreement that caused an increase of 0.24 percentage points when compared to September (0.4%). In the same month of 2020, the rate was 0.04%, which reflects an increase of 0.6 percentage point.

“We are still at a time when rates in recent months seem low given the advance seen since August of last year. But when compared to the historical series, they can be considered high”, concludes Oliveira.

In the year, materials have increased by 25.08%, a level that reaches 33.39% when taking into account the prices of the last 12 months. With regard to labor, the levels are, respectively, 6.42% and 6.88%.

At the regional level, material prices rose more in the North, due to a collective agreement signed in Pará. The region had the highest change in October (2.57%), and the state had the highest monthly change (4.61% ). The smallest change was in the South (0.45%).
