Today ends the first stage of the “Caravan of Indigenous Peoples towards COP30”, which began this Sunday (16), in Pykatoti village, Menkragnotire Indigenous Land in Altamira, Pará.
The project, which is from the Para Government through its Secretary of State for Indigenous Peoples, aims to prepare leaders – youth and adults – for discussions of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, which will take place on November 10 and 21, in Belém.
The caravan will also go through other indigenous communities of the state to promote dialogues and strengthen indigenous representativeness in the “forest COP”.
Audiovisual production workshops and lectures are being held at the villages to train communities to tell their stories and publicize their guidelines.
One of the course participants is Takakra Kaiapó, the region’s indigenous communicator, which stressed the importance of learning.
“It’s a great opportunity. With this workshop, I learned to use the right tools to show the reality of our people. Now we can register what happens in our territory and bring our message to the world, ”said Kaiapó.
In addition to leading leaders, the project is promoting debates on environmental preservation and local strategies to adapt to climate change, which can actively be presented by indigenous people in COP 30, focusing on showing that the forest and its peoples should be at the center of global climate discussions.
