Reducing the isolation period for fully vaccinated patients who test positive coronavirus from 10 to 7 days announced the Minister of Health of France, Olivier Veran.
The French authorities are following the example of other countries, such as the US, which this week reduced its quarantine in order to prevent malfunctions in services and businesses due to staff shortages.
“The quarantine could be lifted after 5 days, in case of a negative test. “Those who are not fully vaccinated should be isolated for 10 days, with the possibility of quarantining after 7 days, under the same condition.”, Mr Veran told the Journal du Dimanche.
He also mentioned that the Omicron mutation is too contagious to be stopped without re-imposing a strict lockdown.
In his sermon, on New Year’s Eve, its president France Emanuel Macron said the coming weeks would be difficult, but declined to announce new measures to curb the spread of the virus.
“We will remain vigilant throughout January,” Mr Veran said, adding that the outbreak of the Omicron variant could be the latest.
France became the sixth country in the world to record more than 10 million infections since the start of the pandemic, according to official figures released yesterday Saturday.
The French health authorities announced 219,126 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 within 24 hours. It was the fourth day in a row that the country recorded more than 200,000 infections.
