Coronavirus – Iran: Johnson & Johnson vaccine approved

His new government Iran approved the vaccine for him coronavirus developed by the American pharmaceutical industry Johnson & Johnson, as became known today by a high-ranking official of the country, at a time when the Islamic Republic is facing a fifth wave of infections.

The announcement came eight months after the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has banned imports of vaccines made in the United States and Britain, although Iran has since accepted vaccines developed by Western companies but made in other countries, according to Reuters.

The government of the president Ebrahim Raisi is under pressure to expand the sources of vaccines, as the country faces an increase in cases in the deadliest wave of Covid-19.

“Johnson & Johnson monosodium vaccine against coronavirus approved“, Said the head of the Iranian Food and Drug Administration Mohammad Reza Sanehsaz, broadcast by Iranian media.

He did not specify where it will be produced the vaccine and did not mention the ban.

In January, Khamenei banned the government from importing vaccines against Covid-19 from the United States and Britain, saying those countries were “unreliable.” He later said that the ban concerned vaccines that are made in these countries.

According to the Iranian Ministry of Health, 13 million people out of the population of 83 million Iranians have been vaccinated fully.

The ministry announced today 18.201 new cases in the last 24 hours, with the total number of infections in Iran now amounting to 5.378.408, the most affected country in the Middle East. Finally, deaths increased by 6.981, in 116.072.
