The US government today announced its plan to launch it next month vaccination against coronavirus 28 million children aged 5 to 11 years in the country, with Pfizer vaccine, as soon as the health authorities give the “green light”.
“Our planning efforts mean that we will be ready to start vaccinations in the coming days following a final recommendation” from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), points out o White House in a press release.
According to AFP, a competent committee of CDC experts is expected to meet on 2a and November 3rd and the recommendation of the Authority is expected to be issued shortly after that date.
Previously, an advisory committee of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (FDA) will study the data submitted by Pfizer on 26 October.
If the recommendation is positive, the FDA will give its formal approval, opening the street for the CDC, in the process followed in the US.
Preparations for the expansion of the campaign
The White House clarified that the vaccines will be available at pediatricians, σε pediatric hospitals, but also in schools.
It should be noted, however, that the packaging of the vaccines has been modified in order to make them easier to use by these structures, in packages of 10 vials (containing 10 doses each).
