Court denies Saul Klein’s pretrial detention for sex crimes

The 2nd Criminal Court of Barueri denied, last Monday (16), the arrest request of businessman Saul Klein, 68, son of the founder of Casas Bahia, Samuel Klein, for eight sexual crimes, after indictment by the Civil Police. from Sao Paulo.

According to Judge Fabio Calheiros do Nascimento, the opinion of the Public Prosecutor’s Office was accepted “to carry out steps in the investigation that investigates the case”. And as there is no set deadline for its completion, the measure was taken “on the grounds that the law prohibits imprisonment for an indefinite period (Article 10 of the Criminal Procedure Code)”.

For some of the other suspects, precautionary measures were imposed, such as a ban on contact with each other and with the victims, a ban on leaving the country and blocking of assets of a legal entity that could be used by the group to co-opt women.

  • Rape of Vulnerable: practice various sexual or lewd acts of sexual intercourse with victims who are unable to offer residency – Klein and 2 other investigated persons;
  • Favoring prostitution or any other form of sexual exploitation of children or adolescents or vulnerable persons: hinder or prevent adolescent prostitution – Klein and 2 other people investigated;

  • Brothel: maintain their own establishment where sexual exploitation took place – Klein and 1 other person investigated;

20 victims were heard. One of them was identified several times as a member of the organization by several women and had her arrest demanded.

Victims’ compensation averaged from R$1,000 to R$3,000 per weekend. Other advantages were offered directly or indirectly, if they wanted to leave the false job.

The criminal organization operated in four nuclei that were subordinate to Klein, namely:

  2. Falsification of documents;
  3. Internal, interstate and administrative security and logistics;
  4. Doctor.

According to the police, the crimes committed under the command of the businessman “were demonstrated by the various testimonies of countless victims who reported, in detail, the means and modes of operation of the illicit undertaking, as well as the investigations in the field carried out by the judicial police and statements of some involved in the activities.”
