Tests with a positive result for Covid-19 returned to double-digit levels in the week between October 17 and 23. The data are from a survey carried out by the Brazilian Association of Pharmacy and Drugstore Networks (Abrafarma).
According to estimates, out of 14,970 tests performed during this interval, 2,320 were positive, equivalent to 15.5% of the total. In the previous week, the index had reached 9.36%, which represented the sixth consecutive week with a single-digit percentage.
In October, there were 4,469 positive tests for the disease, a daily average of 194 cases against 185 in September. The percentage is 10.33%, up from 7.56% in the previous month.
“In light of this situation, the associated networks are reviewing forecasts and will continue to maintain sufficient stocks to absorb a possible increase in demand”, says Sergio Mena Barreto, CEO of Abrafarma, in a statement.
Since the implementation of this service in April 2020, Brazilian pharmacies have performed 19,515,709 rapid tests. The positive results totaled 4,544,963 (23.29%) against 14,970,746 negative (76.71%).
global scenario
Globally, the number of new weekly cases decreased by 17% during the week of October 24-30, compared to the previous week, with more than 2.3 million new cases reported. The data are from the most recent epidemiological bulletin from the World Health Organization (WHO).
The WHO considers that the actual number of incident cases is likely to be underreported due to a drop in testing worldwide.
The number of new weekly deaths decreased by 5% from the previous week, with around 9,300 deaths recorded.
As of October 30, 2022, 627 million confirmed cases and 6.5 million deaths have been reported globally, according to the WHO.
