The booster dose with the vaccine developed by the US company Pfizer and the collaboration of the German group Biontech, the most used in Western countries, is carried out with a dosage equal to that used for the two injections of the main cycle: the green light of Aifa was given last autumn according to the dosage of 30 micrograms in 0.30 ml solution. Just the same as the first two administrations, contrary to the recall with Moderna which occurs with a half dose. Pfizer is expected to seek authorization in March for a vaccine specifically targeting the Omicron variant.
But what kind of side effects should you expect the booster with Pfizer, regardless of what you have previously received? The speech does not change much compared to Moderna, indeed the effects of the two vaccines can be comparable, although anecdotally it seems that those who had not received Moderna previously are suffering a little heavier than Pfizer. In general, in both cases there is an increase in the body temperature, a little bit of exhaustion with consequent joint pain and above all discomfort at the injection site.
In general, the third dose gives rise to these side effects to a lesser extent than the second. Paracetamol to counteract fever and little else, are consequences that disappear within 24 hours. In some rare cases and in particular with Comirnaty (trade name of the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine) a axillary lymph node enlargement, which is resolved in a short time.
The numbers reported by the Ministry of Health speak for themselves: of the participants in phase 2/3 of Pfizer-Biontech Study 2, a subgroup of 306 adults aged between 18 and 55 who had completed the original course of 2 doses of Comirnaty received a booster dose (third dose) approximately 6 months (range: 4.8-8.0 months) after the second dose. The most frequent adverse reactions in participants aged 18 to 55 years were injection site pain (greater than 80%), fatigue (more than 60%), headache (more than 40%), myalgia (more than 30%), chills and arthralgia (over 20%). These side effects usually occur within 48 hours of injection and they resolve at most in the same amount of time.
