Crew members missing off Hong Kong coast after storm sails ship

More than two dozen crew on a ship with 30 people aboard were missing after it broke in two off the coast of Hong Kong as Tropical Storm Chaba passed, officials said.

Three crew members were rescued, and search and rescue operations continued for another about 300 km southwest of the city, the Hong Kong Government Aviation Service said.

Some crew members had abandoned the vessel and adverse weather conditions were hampering rescue efforts, they said.

Chaba bypassed the global financial hub, bringing heavy rain and wind, restricting public transport and forcing many businesses to close.

The financial center’s weather forecast reduced the storm warning to signal Saturday afternoon, when Chaba was ready to go near Zhanjiang in China’s Guangdong province.
