Cuba: First case of monkey pox in the country

Cuba’s Ministry of Health has announced the first confirmed case of monkeypox in the country. He is a tourist from Italy who visited the island nation on holiday.

According to the relevant information, the Italian lived in a rented house and visited various locations in the western part of Cuba before showing symptoms of the disease.

He sought medical attention on Thursday after first developing a skin rash. The patient is hospitalized in critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest, the announcement concludes.

The World Health Organization has declared a global public health emergency — its highest level of alert — to step up efforts to combat monkeypox, as nearly 40,000 cases have so far been confirmed in more than 80 countries where the virus is not endemic.
