The fire, where raged for a week in fuel storage facilities in western Cuba, as announced by the country’s government.
About sixty forensic experts entered the disaster zone to try to find the bodies of the missing, the Cuban presidency added.
The fire, caused by lightning, occurred on August 5 at the Matanzas oil facilities, its largest Bucket, at a distance of 100 kilometers east of Havana. Four tanks with a capacity of up to 52 million liters of crude oil or fuel oil were burned, out of the eight that comprise the facilities.
Two firefighters died in the fire, which also injured 132 people, 23 were still hospitalized, while 14 people were missing. Four of those injured are in critical condition.
The loss of millions of liters of fuel, of strategic importance for powering the country’s thermal power plants, is expected to worsen the already tense electricity situation on the island.
