One double rainbow loomed over the London skyline just before the crowd fell into silence, the moment when the flag was lowereda sign that the queen is no longer alive.
“We grew up with her always there”said Councilor Margaret Parris, tears streaming down her face. Paris did a 32km route to be at the Palace, having heard earlier that the Queen was unwell.
THE Elizabeth died peacefully at her home in Scotland, at the age of 96. Her eldest son, Charles, 73 years old, he is now king.
In Buckingham, 22-year-old student Adam Wilkinson-Hill arrived with a hug of white lilies, on behalf of a group of his friends who could not be found in the capital. “It’s a huge shock to the nation,” he said.
