The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB) lamented the death of doctor Leandro Medice Passos Costa, who went to the state to act as a volunteer in rescuing victims of the rains that devastated the state.
In a post on social media, the governor said he was “deeply saddened.” Furthermore, he took the opportunity to thank all the volunteers who work in the state.
The death of a volunteer who came to Rio Grande do Sul to help care for the victims of the tragedy leaves us deeply saddened.

“My hug to all the volunteers, from all over Brazil, who left their homes to come to Rio Grande do Sul to help our population”, he wrote.
The doctor was found dead in a shelter in São Leopoldo, one day after arriving in the state. The clinic where the doctor worked reported that he was the victim of a sudden illness.
