Delta mutation: Alarm in France for a case of cases after the return of fans from Hungary

The Vosges regional authority in eastern France has announced the location of nine outbreaks of Covid-19 Delta variant among fans, members of the Portuguese community who returned from Hungary where they watched a match of Portugal in Euro 2020.

“An outbreak of the Indian variant has been identified between the residents of Le Tigio and Fres-sur-Moselle, with nine cases so far,” a statement from the regional authority said.

The nine were found to have been infected with the Delta variant a week after returning to France.

The Portuguese team faced the French team at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on June 23 (2-2).

The regional authority did not want to confirm that, apparently, the nine were infected during their trip to Hungary.

Puskas Arena is the only stadium of their Euro event that was used with 100% fullness and the use of a mask was optional.

Local authorities have announced free diagnostic tests and out-of-date vaccinations to avoid the spread of the Delta variant in their area, which is close to Germany and Switzerland.

“We have seen disturbing scenes in the stadiums of Hungary, where there were no restrictions on occupancy (…) We must be careful (…) The pandemic is not over,” French Foreign Minister Clement Bonn told France 2 today.
